The Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) is a university-level entrance test conducted by VIT University for admission to B.Tech programs at its campuses in Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Amaravati (AP). Established in 2001, VITEEE assesses candidates' knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, Aptitude, and English, serving as the sole criterion for over 5,000 seats across 20+ specialisations. Annually, more than 2 lakh candidates appear, making it one of India's most popular private engineering entrances. Unlike JEE Main, VITEEE focuses on speed and accuracy with no negative marking in core subjects, and it offers category-based rank lists for counselling. VIT, ranked among India's top private universities, ensures merit-based admissions with reservations for SC/ST/OBC and PwD candidates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, significantly. VITEEE is NCERT-based, has no negative marking in Physics/Chemistry/Maths, and is shorter (125 questions in 150 minutes). JEE Main is conceptually deeper and has negative marking. Most students score 80–100+ in VITEEE vs 150–200 in JEE Main for a similar preparation level.
Rank under 1,000 (95–100+ marks) is safe for Category 1 CSE in the Vellore campus. Rank under 8,000 gets CSE in the Chennai campus.
No negative marking in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology. Only Aptitude (10 Qs) and English (5 Qs) have –0.25 for wrong answers.
No. VITEEE is mandatory for all regular B.Tech seats. Only the sports quota and NRI quota have separate routes.
Vellore is the oldest, most reputed, and has the best placements (highest package 1 Cr+). Chennai is newer but excellent for CSE/IT/ECE (almost same placements as Vellore for top branches).
₹3.07 lakh per year tuition (Group B branches) + ₹1.2–1.8 lakh hostel/mess. Total ≈ ₹4.3–4.9 lakh per year.
Yes, for all undergraduate students. AC and non-AC options available.
Yes. After the first year, branch change is allowed based on CGPA (usually 8.5+ required for CSE/IT).
VITEEE is slightly tougher than SRMJEEE (more Maths weightage) but easier than BITSAT (no bonus questions, less time pressure). Difficulty order: BITSAT > VITEEE > Manipal > SRMJEEE.
Usually first week of April 2026. It’s first-come-first-served – book early for a preferred date and city.
Around 2–2.2 lakh candidates registered and appeared.

No direct management quota. All seats are filled through VITEEE merit and category ranks only.
For CSE/IT: VIT Vellore is preferred by most students due to 100% placement, higher average package (8–10 LPA), and better industry exposure. For core branches (Mechanical/Civil): NITs are better.
Usually 6–8 phases. Phase 1 for ranks 1–20,000, Phase 2 for 20,001–50,000, and so on till seats are filled.
Yes. Centres are available in Dubai, Kuwait, Muscat, Qatar. Same exam, same rank list.
No electronic devices, calculators, or smart watches are permitted.
For least preferred branches (Civil, Mechanical in Bhopal/AP): up to 1,00,000–1,50,000 rank in later phases.
No. Only 5 questions – very easy comprehension and grammar. Almost everyone scores 4–5/5.
Yes. Central/state board toppers and top 100 VITEEE rankers get 100% tuition fee waiver for all 4 years (GV Merit Scholarship).
Excellent. 2025 batch: 90%+ placement, highest 1.02 Cr (Amazon), average 8–9 LPA for CSE/IT, 6–7 LPA for core branches. 900+ companies visit.
